The Service League helps children in a
number of ways and through many sources, including the public schools. Many times a
teacher or counselor contacts us with a child in need. This need could range from dental
care, eyeglasses, clothing, medical care, or help with rent or a utility bill. First and
foremost we want to help with the daily needs of a child. The Service League is always ready to help
community organizations with child-related services. We also provide a four-year
scholarship program with all four High Schools in the county. Through Special Projects we
are able to help schools with special needs for their classrooms and give to other
organizations that work with children, including Must Ministries, Merismos, Boys and Girls
clubs, Cherokee Co. Family Violence Center, Anna Crawford Childrens Center and
DFACS.
The work of the Service League is all
around you, but what we are noted for is Riverfest.
Although we devote countless hours to
planning Riverfest each year, we do it for a greater purpose. We could never help all the
children we do without the funds from Riverfest weekend. Other fund-raisers for the League
are A Taste of Tradition, our cookbook, and our annual sales of Sally Foster wrapping
paper.
As you can see a lot has changed in over
70 years, but some things stay the same. We are 75 women who love children and want to
serve them by helping meet their needs. We are the Service League of Cherokee County.
